William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center (Water Polo)

William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center serves as the home venue for Concordia University Irvine’s men’s and women’s water polo teams. Widely recognized as one of the premier aquatic complexes in the nation, Woollett is located just 10–12 minutes from CUI’s main Turtle Rock campus, with convenient access from both the 5 and 405 freeways.

The historic facility features two 50-meter pools and a versatile multi-use pool, originally designed to attract top-tier national and international competitions. A major expansion including the addition of a third 50-meter pool is currently underway and is expected to be completed by 2025, according to the Orange County Register.

CUI’s water polo programs host home games primarily in the afternoon, but recent seasons have seen an increase in evening and Saturday night matchups. The venue seats approximately 700 spectators for standard events and can accommodate up to 4,000 attendees for major competitions.

The men’s water polo team competes during the fall semester, while the women take to the pool in the spring. Both teams now compete in the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), with the women’s team joining the conference in summer 2025 after previously competing in the Golden Coast Conference (GCC).

Since its renovation in 2004, the Woollett Aquatics Center has hosted numerous high-profile events, including multiple USA Swimming National Championships (2005–2018), the 2015 USA Water Polo National Junior Olympics, and the 2010 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships. The venue also played a role in Olympic history, hosting the swimming portion of the modern pentathlon during the 1984 Summer Games.

Woollett has welcomed international competition as well, serving as the site of the Mutual of Omaha’s “Dual in the Pool” meet, which featured a head-to-head showdown between swimming powerhouses Team USA and Team Australia. The center is named in honor of William Woollett Jr., the first City Manager of Irvine.
