The first national championship in the history of Concordia athletics was captured on November 18, 2000 in Kenosha, Wisconsin as the women's cross country team scored 133 points to earn the title.
Led by All-American Tricia Mattson, the Eagles placed three runners in the top 25 of the race. That season, the Eagles won the team championship at three different races and never finished lower than sixth place.
Four members of the team earned All-GSAC and GSAC Scholar-Athlete recognition while Martin Gonzalez was named the GSAC Coach of the Year. On the national level, Mattson was joined by Rachel Lafady and Mindy Brown as both NAIA All-Americans and NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
