Garcia-Irons Posts Senior Day Hat Trick

The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles shined on Senior Day as they defeated Hawaii-Hilo 4-1 at Eagles Field on Thursday.

By the Numbers: Senior Alexis Garica-Irons led the day with a hat trick, giving her six goals on the season.  She fired seven shots, all on goal.  Senior Alex Laing scored the other goal for CUI, her first of the year.  Taylor Thurmond, McKenna Carrillo, and Kryssa Johnson had assists, and senior Kristen Pepperling had two dimes.  Darby Clements made two saves in goal, both in exposed situations to preserve the lead.

The Difference: Concordia dominated position, leading shots 20-7 and 13-3 on goal

Critical Plays: McKenna Carrillo had two early header looks and a loose ball from a throw-in from Taylor Thurmond also went wide.  At 16:51 McKenna Carrillo made a nice move on the baseline and found Alexis Garcia-Irons who shot straight on for her fourth of the year.  Miranda Canales got a look that sailed high, but at 37:14 Kristen Pepperling found Thurmond streaking, who centered to Alex Laing, who scored her first goal of the year.  30 seconds into the second half UHH came streaming down the field and scored to make it 2-1.  15 minutes into the half Kryssa Johnson set Garcia-Irons up to streak down the left side, and she took it all the way to the keeper and scored her second of the day.  With two minutes left Garcia-Irons made it a hat trick day as Pepperling found her in the slot again.

What it Means: The Eagles improve to 9-2-3 and 8-1-1 in the PacWest.  They end their home season at 6-0-1 at Eagles Field.

Up Next: The Eagles have three remaining games left, all on the road.  If they win all three they will claim the PacWest Championship on their own.  It starts with a crucial showdown on Saturday at Fresno Pacific at 5 pm.
