The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles exploded offensively at home against Pacific Union, 103-59, on Monday night.
By the Numbers: Case Bruton scored a career-high 18 points to lead five Eagles in double figures. He was joined by JT Roach (17), Matt Scott (14), Justin Davis (12), and Martin Thomas (10). Thomas added seven assists and Stephen Grosey grabbed a team-high eight boards.
The Difference: CUI shot 55% from the field and 48% from three, holding PUC to a 40/29% clip. CUI outscored them in the paint 42-26, and scored 37 points off 25 Pioneer turnovers, leading to 20 Eagle assists.
Critical Plays: Case Bruton scored the first eight Eagle points and CUI led 14-6. Three free throws from JT Roach made it 21-6 Eagles. Justin Davis nailed a three from the corner and CUI led by 20, 38-18, with five minutes left. A three-point play from Roach and three from Martin Thomas made it 13-straight points for CUI from there. The Eagles were rolling through the second half and Mike Mellinger's three-point play made it 88-40 CUI. The Eagles cruised in, 103-59.
What it Means: Both teams moved to 3-1 and CUI rebounded nicely from their loss to CSU San Marcos last week.
