The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles fell to the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes 3-2 on the road on Saturday September 12
th in San Bernardino.
By the Numbers: All of the scoring happened during the first half of play, starting with a CSU goal by Chris Lavery in the seventh minute. The Eagles were quick to respond when
Connor Gordon received a pass from
Chris Rawji to score his first of the season on a break away to knot the score, 1-1. No less than a minute later, the Coyotes scored on a breakaway of their own to regain the lead, 2-1. In the 14
th minute, CSU's Chris Lavery scored his second of the game to extend the Coyote's lead 3-1. The final goal of the game came in the 23
rd minute when
Connor Gordon was able to draw CSU's goalkeeper from the net and score a goal in the left corner to cut the Coyote lead to one. It was his second of the game and for the season. The Coyotes held off the Eagles to win the match 3-2.
The Difference: Down the stretch in the second half, the Eagles had multiple opportunities to tie the game but could not connect with shots from
Nathan Vega,
Jacob Rodewald, and
Jeremy Gordon.
Critical Plays: Eagles goalkeeper,
Jordan Brinkley recorded three saves on the day, one of which was in the second half and was crucial for the Eagles to keep the gap close. The Coyotes outshot the Eagles 12-6.
What it Means: Following the loss, the Eagles record fell to 0-3 for the season.
