The Rundown: Concordia defeated Holy Names 2-1 in Oakland, CA on Saturday afternoon, September 26.
By the Numbers: The Eagles let HNU take the first goal at 5:35, but Ryan Naime and Isaac Gettis scored two goals in response to gain the Eagle victory.
The Difference: Concordia was outshot 21-16, but only 10-9 in shots on frame, and Christian Tait made nine saves for CUI in goal, improving to 2-0. Naime and Chris Rodriguez each had two shots on goal, and Asher Axe recorded three. Of the four yellow cards issued, only one was against CUI.
Critical Plays: Ignacio Alvarez put HNU up 1-0 just five minutes into the contest.  Rogriguez almost tied with a shot in box 10 minutes later. Axe and Connor Gordon also got good chances before the half. It was not until the 66th minute that Naime took a pass at midfield from Jose Garfias and put it far side to tie the match. Holy Names had the most chances after that, but Tait and the Eagle defense held. With 45 seconds left on the clock, Gettis rebounded a shot off the post and gave CUI the 2-1 road win.
What it Means: After an 0-4 season start, the Eagles are now 2-4 and more importantly 2-0 in the PacWest. Holy Names fell to 2-5 and 1-1 on the year.
"Our guys showed a ton of character in a tough environment," CUI head coach Chris Gould said. "To go down 1-0 and fight back to win it, those two goals were huge for our team. This was a solid team performance."
Up Next: The Eagles stay on the road, traveling to California Baptist on October 1 at 3 pm. The teams have not met since 2010. Check the live links in the inset.
