The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles played an impressive match, defeating Notre Dame de Namur 3-0 at home on Saturday night, September 26.
By the Numbers: Rachel Flynn was unstoppable on the outside for CUI, nailing 19 kills while hitting at a .531 clip. CUI focused on their middle attack, as Kyra Auten and Amber Rose had 10 and nine kills, respectively, and each hit over .580. Taylor Dennison served three aces, including two straight to end the match.
The Difference: CUI hit .371 as a team and held NDNU at .223. Concordia also took the sideout advantage in each set and had seven aces, compared to two for the Argonauts.Â
Critical Plays: CUI dominated the first set, 25-13, leading from start to finish. The Eagles trailed 8-5 in set two, but came back with four straight to lead by one. It was 11-8 before NDNU scored. NDNU regained the edge 15-13, forcing a CUI timeout. CUI went back ahead 17-16. It was then 20-18 Argonauts, but CUI came all the way back to win 25-23. Set three was back and forth early, but CUI grabbed a little space, 13-11. The teams found themselves tied late at 21. Two aces from Taylor Dennison saw CUI take it 28-26 after spoiling three set points for NDNU.
What it Means: Concordia improved 6-7 and evened at 2-2 in conference. NDNU dropped to 5-8 and 1-3 on their SoCal trip.
