The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles tied #18 Cal State LA at Jesse Owens Stadium in Los Angeles, CA on Saturday night, September 5.
By the Numbers: Senior Kristen Pepperling scored the lone goal for CUI at 39:58. Jazmin Alvarez made four saves in goal for CUI, and CUI was outshot 11-6 and 5-2 in shots on goal. Natalie Werner recorded the other shot on goal for the Eagles.
The Difference: Despite being outshot, the Eagles had many chances to take the game, and were able to keep the #18 Golden Eagles at bay to claim the 1-1 tie.
Critical Plays: CSU LA had two shots early in the first overtime that was blocked and the second went high. The Golden Eagles fired a shot off the crossbar late in the first overtime, but Werner took the only shot for either team in the second overtime, hitting the crossbar at 101:55
What it Means: It marks the best result for Concordia in their NCAA DII era, after an impressive showing against UC San Diego two days ago. The Golden Eagles went to 0-0-1 and CUI went to 0-1-1.
"I am really proud of our girls," CUI head coach Chris Gould said. "We played two really good programs this week and performed very well in both contests. I thought tonight we were more comfortable and maybe should have gotten more out of the game. We look forward to playing CSU San Marcos."
