Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Eagles Drop Two Close Four-Set Matches At Seaside

Concordia women's volleyball dropped a tight match in four to Regis University and Colorado Mesa to conclude the Seaside Invitational at Point Loma Nazarene.

The Eagles started strong with a 25-23 win over Regis but lost the close match 22-25, 21-25, 23-25.

RU dropped the first set to the Eagles in a close 25-23 finish but turned around to take the next three sets. Katie Klein led the Rangers with an astonishing 19 kills for a .295 attack percentage. Diamond Ridley-Pierce also put down double-digit kills with 12.

Regis held the Eagles to a .148 attack percentage due in large part to the 22 total blocks at the net.  Liz Keena finished with a match-high three solo blocks. Brinley Beresford and Rebecca Sponcil added 14 and 13 digs, respectively.

The Eagles had a similar match vs. Colorado Mesa taking the first set 25-23, and finishing with a 22-25, 19-25, 23-25 four set loss.

CUI head coach Paula Weishoff commented, "We played better in the second match.  This is a work in progress.  1000 Steps and we are taking one at a time, getting better every time we step on the court."

Rachel Flynn played consistently in both matches with 23 Kills vs. Regis and 18 and 6 aces vs. Colorado Mesa, and she was selected to the All-Tournament Team.

Next up for the Eagles is New Mexico Highlands at home Wednesday, September 9.  Check the inset above for live links.
