After two back-to-back home losses to open the 2016 season, the Men's Basketball team rebounded on the road to bank its first win of the year.
The Concordia Eagles edged out the Golden Eagles of Cal State Los Angeles by a score of 75-67.
The first half remained close until the 11 minute mark when Brian Chambers hit a three pointer to put Concordia up by six, the biggest lead of the game. Two free throws and a jumper from Justin Davis pushed the lead to 25-15. The Golden Eagles fought back, but Concordia entered half time with a six point advantage. Â
Concordia shot 100 percent from the free throw line, knocking down 5-5 shots.
In the second half, Concordia kept control of the game, establishing an 11 point lead on a three-point shot from Mike Mellinger. The Eagles, hungry for their first win, extended the lead to 19 on a shot from Chambers to deliver a 66-49 mark. Cal State Los Angeles attacked back, cutting the lead to three with 1:16 remaining.
A Cal State Los Angeles foul sent Tad Dufelmeier to the line with 34 seconds to play. Dufelmeier hit both shots to give the Eagles a five point cushion. In the final twenty seconds, the Eagles made 3-4 free throw shots to close out the 75-67 win.
Chambers had 14 points and two assists. Davis added 13 points and shot 5-6 at the free throw line. Mellinger scored 12 points in 21 minutes of play. As a team, the Eagles shot 76.5 percent from the free throw line, scoring 13 points on 17 attempts.
Concordia looks for its second win at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas.
