Concordia falls to Westmont Warriors

The Concordia Men's Basketball Team dropped its game Tuesday night against the Westmont Warriors 72-81.

The first half was a back and forth event, with the Eagles seeing its biggest lead on a three-pointer from Brian Chambers at 22-17. The Warriors battled back to command a slight 41-38 lead entering half time on Sean Harman's layup.

The Warriors outshot Concordia from the field, shooting 50 percent to the Eagles 43.3 percent. Westmont also had the advantage from the three-point line, hitting 4-9 to Concordia's 5-14. The closest battle of the game came from the free throw line. The Warriors hit 9-10 shots, slightly ahead of the Eagles' 7-8.

Although the second half remained close, the Eagles never regained the lead. Concordia crept up on the Warriors, coming within two on the jumper from Geoff Gerlach. Following this point, the Eagles never got closer than four points from the Warriors. Westmont sealed the victory with accurate free throw shooting, nailing 7-7 in the final 1:32 of play.

Although Concordia improved on its first half field goal percentage, the Eagles three-point shooting was 14.3 percent.

Concordia was led by Brian Chambers who sparked the Eagle offense with 20 points and two assists. Geoff Gerlach gave the Eagles 14 points, two assists and one steal. As a team, the Eagles went 12-13 at the line.

Concordia will play in the Ayres Thanksgiving Classic in CBU's Van Dyne Gym on Nov. 25 against University of Arkansas Fort Smith at 5 p.m.
