Eagles send off seniors with a 3-1 win

Despite losing a first place face off against the Dixie State Trailblazers Thursday, the Men's Soccer Team concluded its successful season with a win.

Thursday, the Men's Soccer Team's tango with the undefeated Trailblazers of Dixie State was a battle between two teams looking for the PacWest Title.

The game was evenly fought in the first half, both teams remaining scoreless until the break. The Trailblazers applied pressure throughout the first 45 minutes, with nine shots to the Eagles three. Jordan Brinkley had three saves.

The second half slipped away from the Eagles. The trio of Trailblazer goals started when Kris Evans knocked in a header from a throw in in the 56th minute. Three minutes later, Christian Hall had a header of his own from Blake Damato's pass. The third goal came in the 64th minute on a give-and-go two touch pass from Moises Medina to Dominic Damato.

Although the score was 3-0, the Eagles were not ready to quit. Julian Font's successful shot from the right wing reduced the lead to two, but it was too late.

The Trailblazers won 3-1 and claimed the PacWest title.

Concordia not only rebounded Saturday with a 3-1 win, but celebrated its senior class's final game in Eagle uniform.

Connor Gordon got the game against Academy of Art started with his thirteenth goal of the year only 11 minutes in.

The Urban Knights responded on a header from Dominic Payerchin, but were shut down the rest of the game.

Gordon gave the lead back to Concordia just after the start of the second half with a shot to the bottom right. Julian Font joined in for his fourth goal of the year on the assist from Ether Bustos.

Seniors Jordan Brinkley, Jacob Rodewald, Asher Axe, Miguel Mendoza, Chris Rawji and Isaac Gettis celebrated their successful careers before Saturday's win.

 

Jordan Brinkley finished the 2016 season with the most saves in the conference, stopping 86 shots. He had five shut outs on the year.

Jacob Rodewald scored four goals, with three assists in his 871 minutes player his senior year.

Asher Axe accumulated two goals and one assist in 2016.

Miguel Mendoza was a force for the Eagles throughout the year, leading the team with 1654 minutes played. He scored two goals this season.

Chris Rawji played 1525 minutes in his senior season and scored one goal for Cocnordia.

Isaac Gettis was an offensive threat all year, scoring three goals and passing off six assists.

The Eagles finished the 2016 season with an 11-5-2 record and 10-3-0 in the PacWest for second place.

The team averaged the highest scoring percentage and number of goals in the PacWest, averaging 2.333 goals per game for a total of 42.
