Women's Basketball battles with Point Loma, drops second PacWest game

The Women's Basketball Team lost a hard fought game to the Point Loma Sea Lions, falling 66-79.

Sopavy Seng led Concordia with 21 points, one assist and one steal. Montana Walters had 14 points and five assists.

The Sea Lions jumped to a six point lead after making back-to-back three-pointers. Espinoza put the Eagles on the board with two free throws, and Walters worked up three to cut the lead to one.

The teams battled to a 9-9 score, until Portia Neale netted a layup to take the slim two-point lead. The two teams battled it out the remainder of the first, with Point Loma finishing it out with a 15-13 advantage.

Point Loma started the second with the same sharp shooting they gave in the first, hitting a three-pointer to put three more on the board. Concordia continued to battle play after play, but missed a few key shots to enhance the Sea Lion scoring. Point Loma took a 14 point advantage, up 35-21 with four minutes to go.  But, they would not score the rest of the period.

The Eagles offense electrified, scoring 10 consecutive points to close out the second quarter. Sopavy Seng scored six of these points, with four free throws and a layup. Walters closed things out with another three-pointer, sending the Eagles into halftime down 31-35

Although the Eagles kept the game close at the start of the second, the Sea Lion shooting picked up speed in the second half of the game. The visiting team took hold of a commanding 72-53 lead with just under four minutes to play in the game. The Eagles attempted to claw their way back in, but the Sea Lions finished the game with a 79-66 win.

Concordia now 5-5 and 2-2 in the PacWest compete next at the Sodexo Tip-Off Classic. They take the court in Seattle, Washington at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16.
