Eagles fall to Cavaliers in Seattle, Walters selected to All-Tournament Team

Box Score The Concordia Eagles faced off with the Concordia Cavaliers of Portland, Ore. for their second game of the Seattle Pacific Classic Saturday night and suffered their second loss of the tournament. The Cavaliers claimed a 74-64 win in Brougham Pavilion.
Portia Neale notched 14 points for the team high. Neale knocked down 9-10 free throws and added two assists. Sopavy Seng scored 13 points with three steals. Montana Walters, Judith Espinoza and Zoe Scott-Goss each contributed 11 points. The Eagles combined for 14 steals and 30 rebounds. Although the Eagles had more steals than the Cavaliers, their opponent out-rebounded them 43-30.
Walters started off the game for the Eagles still hot from her previous showing in Seattle with a three pointer, but the Cavaliers took control with a seven point lead. They closed out the quarter up by nine.
To start the second, the Eagles used a six point run of their own to get within three. But each time the Eagles came close to overtaking the lead, the Cavaliers buckled down and made baskets to regain momentum. Going into half time, the Eagles trailed 37-30.
The Cavaliers built their biggest lead of the night in the third quarter, going up by 15 with 52 seconds to play. Seng made two free throws to cut the lead to 13 entering the fourth.
Despite entering the final quarter down, the Eagles continued to fight. Neale netted a three-pointer to get the Eagles within five with just under a minute to play. She then made back to back free throws to reduce the lead to four. Although the Eagles attempted to apply pressure, the Cavaliers made 6 of 6 free throws to end the game.
Walters was named to the All-Tournament team. She averaged 11.5 points and 4.5 assists per game. She made 3-5 three pointers against Seattle Pacific and added three more against the Cavs.
