Box Score Irvine, Calif. -  Sweet, but sour would be a phrase that Concordia men's volleyball fans could say about tonight's 0-3 (38-36, 25-18, 25-20) loss to UC Irvine. The Eagles showed that they can compete division I schools, going point for point with the American Volleyball Coaches Association's 8th-ranked team in the first set of the match. UC Irvine eventually won the set 38-36, but the CUI men showed that they have great potential.

Hunter Howell led the Eagles in kills with 11 and also added four digs and two total blocks. Andrew Hammer and Predney Jonathon contributed with six kills each and combined for six digs. Libero Ryan Murphy anchored the defense with nine digs, while Jacob Weiser had five digs of his own.

UC Irvine was led by Scott Stadick, who posted nine kills and eight blocks on the night. Michael Saeta helped out with 33 assists, and Dillion Hoffman showed out with a match-high 17 digs.

The Eagles had leads in two of the three sets, but couldn't overcome their 14 service errors, as well as an overall hitting percentage of .162. If they can manage to clean up their unforced errors, they'll be a tough out for any opponent this year.

Concordia will look bounce back when they go on the road to take on Cal State Northridge on Friday, Dec. 30th at 7:00 pm.
