Concordia Falls to CSUN in Last Match of 2016

Box Score Northridge, Calif. – In its last game of 2016, the Concordia Men's Volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-21) loss to Cal State Northridge. The loss drops the Eagles to an overall record of 0-2 on the season.

Concordia got off to a quick start in the first set, taking a 7-3 lead after a kill from Hunter Howell. The Matadors then battled back to tie the score at 13. After trading points for the majority of the set, Cal State Northridge was able to pull away, taking the first set with a score of 25-21.

The second set was quite the opposite, as the Matadors jumped out to an early 12-6 lead and never looked back. The Eagles fought back to cut the deficit to two but were never able to tie or take the lead.

In the third, CUI looked like they were on their way to winning their first set of the season, finding themselves ahead by a score of 17-14. Another rally from the Matadors ended those hopes, as they took the momentum when the score got into the twenties. Cal State Northridge went on to complete the sweep, and win the set by a score of 25-21.

Ryan Anselmo was the Eagles best offensive weapon on Friday night, as he led the team with 14 kills and one assist. Setter Chandler Gibb stepped up and posted 29 assists along with six digs, which were both team highs.  

The Eagles return to CU Arena for a home stand against the USC Trojans and McMaster University on Jan. 3-4. Both games are set to start at 7:00 pm with live stats and video available at cuieagles.com.
