Eagles Fall to UCSD, Almost Upset APU

This past Saturday Jan. 30th the Eagles traveled to La Jolla, CA to compete against the #5 regional ranked UC San Diego Tritons and were defeated 9-0. In the singles competition #1 Ivana Vlakic was defeated 6-0 and 6-3. Andrea Madrigal lost the first set 6-1 and fought back in the second set with a loss of 6-4. #3 Johanna Keeline competed back and forth in both sets and came short in both with a score of 6-2, 6-3. In the doubles competition all three groups were defeated by San Diego. #2 Johanna Keeline and Samantha Schuster battled a close match with a score of 8-6.
This past Thursday Feb. 4th the Eagles had their first home match of the season in Costa Mesa, CA vs. Azusa Pacific. In the singles competition #3 Samantha Schuster was the first Eagle to take a victory from opposing Cougar Lilit Varganyan with a close score of 6-2, 3-6, and a strong fight in the third set for the win of 6-4. In the #5 position Johanna Keeline defeated Kashina Vlaeriia in two with a box score of 6-0, 6-3. In the double competition CUI had a strong push for victory taking the #2 and #3 spot victory. Samantha Schuster and Johanna Keeline partnered up to take down APU Kara Hinton and Lilit Varganyan with an end score of 8-5. Directly after this match CUI's Kelsey Markle and Ivana Vlakic kicked it into high gear defeating Kashina Valeriia and Jackie Resler with a close score of 9-7. Unfortunately these close battles weren't enough for Concordia to take the win. Azusa took the match with a score of 5-4 overall.
