Eagles Impressive Early Offensive Output Continues Against Concordia-Portland

The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles continued their impressive home run pace early in 2016, and the pitching was lockdown as they beat Concordia-Portland 11-0 and 13-1 on Friday afternoon at Eagles Field.

Concordia 11, Concordia-Portland 0

By the Numbers:  Amy Eilefson had two home runs, and Ryann Ferguson and Charlotte Foster each had a blast.  Ferguson and Alyssa Yglesias doubled.  Eilefson had four RBI and Foster had three.  Grayson Harvey improved to 5-0 allowing one hit.

The Difference:  Harvey combined with the long ball took this one easily.

Critical Plays:  Ferguson doubled to start the first and scored on Hannah Howell's sac fly to left.  Ferguson led off the third with a solo blast to right.  Amy Eilefson made it 4-0 with a two run shot in the fourth.  Foster homered later in the inning and it was 9-0 Eagles.  Eilefson then homered again and it was 11-0. 

Concordia 13, Concordia-Portland 1

By the Numbers:  Ferguson and Nicole Chavez went deep in this one, and Susana Gurney pitched four innings allowing one run on five hits.  Chavez also doubled and Foster and Howell had three hits.

The Difference:  Again CUI had 10 RBI and held the Cavaliers to one run.

Critical Plays:  After Portland grabbed their first lead of the day in the first, but Foster singled to tie the game and a passed ball put CUI back ahead.  Hannah Howell's chip shot made it 3-1 in the first.  A squeeze play and passed ball made it 5-0.  In the third Ferguson snuck a home run down the right field line, making it 8-1 Eagles.  Nicole Chavez's home run in the bottom of the fourth gave CUI the chance to winning in five, putting CUI ahead 13-1. 

What it Means:  CUI improves to 9-0 on the season.
