The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles ended their season with a road loss to Dixie State, 82-67, on Saturday night from St. George, UT. CUI finishes the season tied for first place in the PacWest with Azusa Pacific, Cal Baptist, and Dixie State. Azusa Pacific is declared the PacWest Champion because they have an undefeated record against CUI, CBU, and DSU.
By the Numbers: The Eagles were without Stephen Grosey, who was lost to injury in the previous game. Regardless, CUI led 38-34 at half time, but was outscored 48-29 by the home team in the second half. Justin Davis led the Eagles with 25 points, a career high. JT Roach added 11 and Matt Scott scored nine.
The Difference: The difference came at the foul line, as DSU was 21 of 35, and CUI was 7-11.
Critical Plays: CUI jumped out to a 17-11 lead after a jumper and three from Davis. A layup from Scott and three from Case Bruton increased it to 25-13. CUI held the 38-34 lead at halftime. Threes from Roach and Martin Thomas to start the second half kept CUI ahead 44-39. DSU scored six-straight in response. They slowly built that lead to the end of the half, with it increasing late.
What it Means: The Eagles end an extremely impressive first season in the PacWest at 22-6 and 15-5 in the conference. They didn't lost any games to anyone outside of second place in the PacWest.
Up Next: The Eagles will lose four seniors, but prepare to build off the momentum of their first season at the Division II level.
