The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles took and lost a lead in the seventh, and fell in their DII opener, 9-8 at Cal Poly Pomona.
By the Numbers: Ryan Land was three-for-three with a double and triple. Chad Whiteaker had two hits and Isaiah Terrazas started for CUI, going six innings allowing five hits and two runs.
The Difference:Â The Eagles were touched up for seven runs in the bottom of the seventh after taking the lead in the top.
Critical Plays: CPP homered to open the third and get the first run on the board. CUI got on the board to tie in the fifth as John Bornhop walked and scored on Hunter Holland's double. CPP took it back in the bottom on a walk and two errors. Ryan Land tripled and scored on Tino Leite's single to tie it up in the sixth. After a walk, sacrifice and balk, Land doubled in the seventh as CUI led 3-2. The Broncos took control scoring seven times in the seventh inning. CUI fought back valiantly, but left one on base in the ninth, falling 9-8.
What it Means:Â Concordia falls to 0-1 on the young season.
Up Next:Â The team continue play at CPP tomorrow at 6 pm, before coming to Irvine for a doubleheader on Saturday.
