Eagles Go 2-1 On Week, Including Win Over Villanova

This past Tuesday February 23rd at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center the Concordia Eagles had a match against Hope International University. CUI swept HIU taking the win for all matches doubles competition and five of six in the singles competition.. During the singles match #1 Luisa Sterkel defeated Sabrina Miller with a score of 6-0, 6-1. #2 Samantha Schuster defeated Jessica Cornea 3-0, and then had to be retired. #3 Johanna Keeline and #4 Paris Lee defeated Haley Robles and Chelsea Bollinger with a clean sweep of 6-0 for both sets. Lastly, in the #6 position Gabriella Chavez defeated Taylor Touchstone with a box score of 6-4 in set one and a close 7-6 in set two. In the doubles competition Concordia took the win and defeated Hope International positions #1-3 with a match score of 8-1. Concordia took the overall box score of 8-1.
The very next day #10 in regional ranked Eagles traveled to San Diego, CA to compete back on the court against the #7 Point Loma Sea Lions. In the singles competition #3 Samantha Schuster defeated Hillary Ramage with a three set win of 7-5, 4-6, and 6-3. Following after in the #4 position Johanna Keeline defeated Nicole Camaratta with a clean score of 6-0, 6-2. In the doubles competition in the #3 position Ivana Vlakic and partner Kelsey Markle defeated Kirsty Mountain and partner Jen Weismann, 8-2. This wasn't enough to defeat the Sea Lions and the Eagles lost with a box score of 6-3.
Saturday the 27th at 10 am Concordia competed in a home match against Villanova University at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center. In the singles competition the Eagles had a strong start taking the win in positions #1-4. The #1 position Ivana Vlakic defeated Tori Smyth 6-3, 7-5. #2 Andrea Madrigal defeated Victoria Martinez 6-3, 7-5. #3 position Luisa Sterkel defeated Samantha Schafer 6-4, 7-5. Lastly, #4 Samantha Schuster defeated Lindsey Evans 7-6, 6-0. Following in the doubles competition Concordia had a strong finish defeating Villanova. In the #2 position Samantha Schuster and partner Johanna Keeline took the win a score of 8-6. Concordia defeated Villanova with an overall close box score of 5-4.
Concordia will be back on the court in San Francisco, CA to compete against the Academy of Art on March 2nd at 10 am.Â
