CUI Plays Two GCC Matches
Brooke Marino
This past Saturday March 12th the CUI women's water polo team traveled north to compete in Fresno, CA versus the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds. The Eagles splashed in the pool that afternoon and goalie Megan Leckich shined with three blocks in the first quarter and a stop for each quarter after. Although CUI had a strong defensive game, Concordia had a slow offensive match. Kelsey Stumm made two of the three goals for the match both in the first and third quarter. Teammate Jastine Vazquez shot through the Sunbirds net for the Eagles' second goal of the game but this wasn't enough to beat Fresno. The box score ended with a defeat for the Eagles and a score of 3-13.
The following Wednesday CUI was back in the water to compete against California Baptist University for a home match at the William Woolett Jr. Aquatics Center. Concordia had another battle of a match with a total of two goals for the entire game. Kelsey Stumm scored the first goal in the third quarter and the second goal in the Cal Baptist net was in the fourth quarter by Emily Varisco.
The next match will be on this Sunday the 20th against Chapman University in Orange, CA at 11 am.
