Eagles Go 1-3 Over Week Stretch

The Eagles dominated against Hope International with an 8-1 victory.

In the first slot, Till Guttenberger defeated Mauricio Mosquera, 6-3, 7-5. In slot number two, Filip Burnac came back to defeat Adrien Varenne after losing the first set 2-6, 6-2, and 6-3. In slot three, Man Hon Ko bested Anthony Sena with scores of 6-4, 6-3. In slot four, Santiago Sanchez beat Andres Rivas 6-0, 6-1. In the fifth slot, Daniel Reddmann handled Michael Maiolo with scores of 6-0 and 6-1 to round out the singles sweep for the Eagles.  

In doubles, Till Guttenberger teamed up with Daniel Reddmann to conquer Anthony Sena and Adrien Varenne with a score of 8-6.

Against Point Loma CUI fell 3-6.

In the third slot, Man Hon Ko came out with a strong win against James Tenbroeck with a 7-6 win in the first set, while the game was retired during the second set. Daniel Reddmann had a solid match in the fifth slot, starting off with a win in the first set 6-2. The men battled it out in the second set leaving Reddmann with the win 7-5.

Filip Burnac and Santiago Sanchez topped the doubles competition in slot three, defeating James Tenbroeck and Grant Alston with a win 8-5.

The Concordia Eagles faced off against a few days later against UC Riverside on Saturday, February 27 at the SRC Tennis Center in Riverside, CA. Concordia could not rally up the win and UC Riverside took away the victory 7-0.

Overall it was a tough day for the Eagles, but there were a couple of fighting performances. In the first slot, Till Guttenberger put up a strong fight against Julian Ruffin taking him to three sets, but ultimately losing with scores of 3-6, 7-6, and 5-10. Eagles struggled in the doubles competition against UC Riverside. Harsha Manjunath and Man Hon Ko stayed close to their opponents during the match, but could not bring home the win ending the match 4-6.

CUI then fell to Villanova, 1-8, with Burnac taking the lone win in singles #2 (7-6, 4-6, 10-5).

Concordia will travel to Sonoma State on Thursday, March 3, for a 2 pm match.
