CUI Comes Storming Back, Pushes Chapman To The Brink
Brooke Marino
The past Sunday on March 20th the CUI women's water polo team traveled right up the 5 freeway to Orange, CA to compete against Chapman University.
It was a beautiful morning for competition against the Panthers, which began at 11 am. When the Eagles splashed in the water the battle began. What an exciting game filled with an intense pursuit of back and forth goal scoring from both the Eagles and the Panthers. In the first quarter the Panthers came out strong scoring four goals against the Eagles. Emily Varisco came back with the first goal of the high scoring match. With the scoring being 4-1 and the Eagles down by 3 Concordia came alive and scored three more goals in the second by Jastine Vasquez, Emily Vairsco and Anika Peterson.
The Panthers pushed their offense and scored two more goals in the second making the score 6-4 going into the second half of the match. The third quarter CUI scored two goals by Kelsey Stumm and Anika Peterson but it wasn't enough for the Panthers to keep pushing the goal spread ending with a score of 6-10. The strongest quarter of the day for the Eagles was when they battled back to score five goals from Kelsey Stumm, Katherine Leese, Taylor Ganeko and teammate Emily Varisco.
Unfortunately the match ended with a box score of 11-14 and Concordia takes the defeat. The Eagles will be back in the water to compete against Azusa Pacific University for an away match on Saturday, April 2nd.
