The Eagles split with Holy Names on Tuesday, March 8
th in a double-header at Eagles Field. The Eagles won the first game, 9-4, and lost the second 19-5.
In the first game, the Eagles recorded nine runs, 14 hits, and two errors.
Starting on the mound was
Collin Orellana who pitched through the sixth. He recorded one strikeout and allowed six hits on four runs. Orellana recorded the win and improves his season record to 2-1.
Joe Ehlert relieved Orellana to start the sixth and allowed one hit.
Isaiah Terrazas replaced Ehlert in the eighth and also allowed one hit. In the ninth,
Kellen Richards came in to close the game.
Holy Names scored first in the third inning after a single up the middle by Alex Denobriga to bring in a runner from second base. The Hawks led 1-0 headed into the bottom of the third.
Michael Nava walked to start the bottom of the third and
Ryan Land singled to right field to put runners on first and second.
Tino Leite bunted toward the second baseman and safely reached first to load the bases for the Eagles.
Chad Whiteaker was hit by a pitch to bring home Nava and to tie the game 1-1 with no outs and the bases still loaded. Up next was
Brett Barker who walked to put the Eagles ahead 2-1.
John Bornhop grounded into a double play and batted in
Tino Leite to add to the Eagles lead. After the third, the Eagles led 3-1.
In the fourth, the Hawks closed the gap and scored after a catcher's interference call was declined after advancing runners to third and home.
The Eagles led 3-2 headed into the fifth.
The Eagles scored two runs in the fifth when
Hunter Holland singled through the right side and brought in
Chad Whiteaker. .
Luke Hussung hit a sacrifice fly to left field to drive in
John Bornhop and to take a 5-2 Eagles lead.
The Hawks answered with two runs in the top of the sixth after Dustin Zeisler doubled to left and drove in two runs, making the score 5-4.
The Eagles scored multiple runs in the eighth after
Luke Hussung came home after a passed ball and
Ryan Land recorded an RBI after singling to left field and scoring Thompson. The Eagles led 7-4 with one out when
Brett Barker came to bat with the bases loaded and walked for the second time. Bornhop singled to center field to bring in
Tino Leite and to take an Eagles 9-4 lead.
The Eagles held off the Hawks in the top of the ninth and won the game, 9-4.
In the second game, the Eagles recorded five runs, seven hits, and one error and lost 19-5.
Spencer Moran started on the mound and pitched through the fourth. He recorded one strike out and allowed seven runs on seven hits. Moran recorded the loss and his record stands at 0-4.
John Bornhop came in to start the fifth and allowed five runs and three hits. Garrett Kramer started the seventh and gave up three runs on four hits.
Dallas Draviczki pitched the ninth.
The Hawks took an early lead in the first after Caleb Parker doubled to right center and brought in Dustin Zeisler. Drew Gnos grounded out to
Tino Leite and brought in Parker to take a 2-0 lead.
Brett Barker singled to left field to drive in
Tino Leite and cut the Hawk lead to one.
In the top of the third, the Hawks scored three runs after two singles from Chris Gnos and Trent Carrier followed by a double from Branson Umbarger. The Hawks led 5-1.
Concordia responded with a run after
Ryan Land advanced to third after a failed pickoff attempt by the Hawks pitcher James Doyle.
Chad Whiteaker grounded out subsequently and brough Land in for an RBI to make the score 5-2.
Hawks Dustin Zeisler hit a double to left center field in the top of the fourth to bring home two runs and extend their lead, 7-2.
The Hawks racked up five runs in the fifth with three of those runs scoring after a triple by Dustin Zeisler. The Hawks led 12-2 after the fifth and scored three more in the sixth after a three run home run by Sean Carrington.
The Eagles trailed 15-2 until scoring two runs in the sixth after a
Nick Daley double to bring in
Hunter Holland and
Brett Barker.
In the bottom of the seventh,
Michael Nava scored from second after
Kellen Richards hit a ball to the shortstop and Hawks Dustin Zeisler committed a throwing error and allowed Nava to come home.
The Eagles were down 15-5 heading into the ninth and allowed four more runs.
The Eagles lost 19-5.
The Eagles record moves to 10-14 overall and 6-6 in the PacWest.
