Eagles Find Momentum Heading Into Match Against CSULA Today

The Eagles had a home match on campus at the CU Tennis courts on March 18th against Kenyon College all the way from Ohio.  CUI swept 5 of the 6 wins in the singles competition. In the #1 position Ivana Vlakic defeated Diana Aboubakare with a close first game of 6-4 and continuing the defeat in the second game 6-1. #2 Andrea Madrigal defeated Maggie Sweeney with a strong finish of 6-2,6-1. #3 Luisa Sterkel defeated Jenna Murray with a tight score of 6-3, 7-5. In the #4 spot Johanna Keeline defeated Grace Winslow with a clean sweep of 6-0 for both sets.  In the doubles competition Concordia continued to dominate taking all three wins against Kenyon with box scores 8-4, 8-0 and a close match to finish out the day of 8-6. The Eagles represented well at their home courts.
 
It was a beautiful day to play tennis for CUI having a home match versus Holy Names on March 19.  The Eagles were on fire and swept Holy Names, taking all 9 wins in both the singles and doubles competition. In the singles competition #3 Luisa Sterkel defeated Stella Dominik in three sets with the biggest battle of the day. She took the win with a box score of 6-0, 4-6, and 10-3.  In the doubles competition #1 position Andrea Madrigal and Partner Cailtyn Uzzi fought a hard game to take the win against Chelsea Smithback and partner Rutendo Gwaze with a tight box score of 9-8.
 
On Wednesday, March 23rd, Point Loma traveled up the Pacific Coast to compete against CUI for a home match at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center.  That afternoon in the singles competition #3 Luisa Sterkel defeated PLNU Hilary Ramage with a box score of 6-2, 7-5. Another win for the Eagles in the singles competition was by #5 Johanna Keeline with a solid win ending with a box score of 6-0, 6-5. Later that day in the doubles competition the Eagles battled to earn all around points and took the win in the #1 and #2 position but it wasn't enough for the Eagles and the Sea Lions took the all around victory of 5-4.
 
CUI will be traveling up to Los Angeles, CA today to compete against Cal State University of Los Angeles at 1:30 pm in the afternoon.
