CUI Sweeps Colorado Mesa For First NCAA Win

On April 6th, the Eagles took on Fullerton College and pulled out a 3-2 win. In the first slot, Rachel Flynn and Kaila Ames took a win in three sets with scores 21-19, 18-21, and 15-10. In the second slot, Marissa Boyd and Amber Rose took the first set with a score 21-13 but ultimately lost the following two sets with scores 17-21 and 8-15. In the third slot, Kyra Auten and Taylor Dennison lost the first set with a close score 23-25 and coming back to win the second set, 21-12. In the third set, they put up a strong fight but couldn't pull out the win with a score 13-15. In the fourth slot, Madeline Deters and Ellie Ladensack dominated in two sets with scores 21-10 and 21-8. In the fifth slot, Logan Grove and Kailey Dudevoir won in two sets with scores 21-8 and 21-13.

The next day the Eagles competed with Colorado Mesa University, claiming their first sweep of the year with a 5-0 win and their first NCAA win. In the first slot, Rachel Flynn and Kaila Ames competed against Taylor Woods and Erin Perez and won in two close sets with scores 29-27 and 21-18. In the second slot, Marissa Boyd and Amber Rose defeated Naomi Pinnecoose and Hana Peterman with scores 22-20 and 21-9. In the third set, Kyra Auten and Taylor Dennison competed against Kricket Adleman and Megan Gianinetti and taking the win in two close sets with scores 24-22 and 21-19. In the fourth slot, Madeline Deters and Ellie Ladensack put up a strong fight against Mackenzie Edwards and Hattie Gianinetti losing the first set 17-21 and coming back to win the next two sets 21-17 and 15-13. In the fifth slot, Logan Grove and Kailey Dudevoir dominated against Natalee Todd and Rachael Moralez in two sets 21-12 and 21-8. Katie Napier and Morgan Nunley who took the win over Alyssa Chutka and Celeste Henderson with scores 21-12 and 21-15 played the final slot.

The Eagles battled against Loyola Marymount on April 9th at Hermosa Beach, CA as part of the USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge, but ultimately losing with a close score of 2-3. In the first slot, Rachel Flynn and Kaila Ames were lost to Rachelle Suaava and Avery Bush in two sets with scores 18-21 and 16-21. In the second slot, Marissa Boyd and Amber Rose defeated Jamie Lea and Tatiana Schlange in two sets with scores 21-19 and 21-13 respectively. In the third slot, Tristan Self and Kyra Auten lost to Kekai Whitford and Sascha Dominique in two sets with scores 19-21 and 14-21. In the fourth slot, Ellie Ladensack and Madeline Deters lost in two sets to Lindsay Carr and Veronica Nederend, 17-21 and 14-21. In the fifth slot, Logan Grove and Kailey Dudevoir put up a tough fight against Sara Kovac and Kristen Castellanos and took the win in three sets. Logan and Kailey took the first set it a score 21-16 but lost the second 11-21. In the third set, they were able to take finish strong with a 15-9 win.

It was a tough day for the Eagles later in the day against San Francisco with a score 0-5. In the first slot, Rachel Flynn and Kaila Ames lost in two close sets against Oluoma Okaro and Sara Staengle with scores 21-23 and 16-21. In the second set, Marissa Boyd and Amber Rose were defeated by Katarina Pilepic and Jurja Vlasic with scores 19-21 and 9-21. In the third slot, Taylor Dennison and Kyra Auten lost to Courtney Sabahi and Emily Reed, 8-21 and 13-21. In the fourth slot, Madeline Deters and Ellie Ladensack put up two strong sets against Jessica Gaffney and Kiara McKibben with scores 19-21 and 18-21. In the fifth slot, Logan Grove and Kailey Dudevoir lost to Jessica Keenan and Kim Gutierrez in another close match with scores 20-22 and 18-21.

On April 10th, Concordia competed in the USAV Collegiate Challenge Pairs Tournament at Hermosa Beach, CA. In the consolation silver bracket, Madeline Deters and Ellie Ladensack competed against Jasper/Geiser from UCLA. In the first set, Madeline and Ellie competed strong but ultimately losing 21-23 and coming back to dominate the second set 21-9. In the final set, Madeline and Ellie were able to pull out a strong win for the Eagles with scores 15-11.

In the consolation in the gold bracket, Rachel Flynn and Kaila Ames played against Schlange/Nederend from LMU and lost in two sets with scores 14-21 and 17-21. Marissa Boyd and Amber Rose lost in two sets to Okaro/Staengle from USF with scores 13-21 and 15-21. In the silver bracket, Taylor Dennison and Kyra Auten played against Gaffney/McKibben from USF, losing in two close sets 20-22 and 16-21.

The Eagles will take on California State University, Northridge on April 14th in Irvine.
