CUI takes Tournament Championship for second-straight weekend, Flynn named to All-Tournament Team

Box Score Turlock, CA - The Concordia-Irvine Eagles played one of it's most consistent matches of the season at a time where it needed it the most.  Facing a talented and athletic Stanislaus State team in what was the championship match of the 3 day West Region Showcase, CUI put together a complete team effort in sweeping the host Warriors 25-18, 25-20, 25-20 in the final match of the tournament.

The Eagles led in all statistical categories and had another three-headed monster to contend with in the form of seniors Hannah Andrews and Ellie Ladensack and junior Rachel Flynn. Flynn and Andrews each had 13 kills while right-side hitter Ellie Ladensack had 10. Collectively, the Eagles hit .281 as a team against the Warriors. The CUI defense was staunch as well with junior Madeline Deters picking up 12 digs and junior Amber Rose coming away with 6 blocks.

Flynn finished the weekend with 51 kills (3.64/set), and 42 digs (3.0/set), earning her a second consecutive weekend on the All-Tournament Team.  The All-Tournament team this weekend was selected from all the athletes of the 36 teams that competed at the six different sites of the West Region Showcase.

Concordia returns to action first on Tuesday in an exhibition match against a travel team from China.  The exhibition will start at approximately 4:00p.m.  The Eagles kick off Pac-West Conference play next weekend when they host Fresno Pacific (Friday, 7:00 p.m.) and Dixie State (Saturday, 5:00 p.m.) in the CUI Arena.
