Balanced effort from Eagles overcomes a determined Alaska Fairbanks squad

Box Score TURLOCK, Calif. – Concordia continued to find different ways to win on Saturday afternoon.  In their first of two matches on the final day of the DII West Region Showcase the Eagles set a blistering pace out of the gates, winning the first two sets in just under 40 minutes.  A game Nanook squad denied Concordia the sweep by taking the 3rd set, but Concordia would not be denied, resuming the torrid pace they had established to take the win in four at the Fitzpatrick Arena. Scores were 25-17, 25-11, 23-25 and 25-11.

Sets one and two both followed the same script with the Eagles jumping out to a lead and never looking back.  Set 3 proved to be a very different affair as a game Nanook squad battled and neither team could seem to get out of their own way on the offensive side of things.  Concordia swung at a meager .027 efficiency (8 kills, 7 errors) while Alaska was even more error-prone, swinging at a .023 efficiency (9 kills, 8 errors) but the Nanooks defense and serving was the difference, propelling them to the hard-fought win.

The Eagles re-established their own pace in the fourth set, moving out quickly to a big lead, recording two five-point runs and one seven-point run to seal the victory.

Concordia spread the wealth again with three players in double-digit kills.  Rachel Flynn came away with 13 (along with 7 digs), and Amber Rose and Ellie Ladensack each had 10.  Rose and Ladensack hit a stunning .600 and .500, respectively leading the team to a .371 hitting efficiency for the match. Rose and Freshman Cindy Tran added five blocks each in the win.

Concordia wraps up play in the West Region Showcase at 7:30pm tonight when they play host Stanislaus State in the final match of the weekend.  Stanislaus is coming off its first loss of the weekend after being toppled by Western Oregon in four sets.
