Concordia has Streak Snapped, Drops Two in Provo

Box Score 2 Provo, Utah - The Concordia Men's Volleyball team went on the road to Provo, Utah for a doubleheader against McKendree University and the BYU Cougars on Friday. The Eagles dropped their first match against McKendree 3-2 (25-19, 20-25, 22-25, 25-22, 13-15) and the second to BYU 3-0 (23-25, 17-25, 24-26).
The two losses snap the Eagles five-game winning streak and drops them to an overall record of 5-5.
In their first match, Concordia jumped ahead early, winning the first set behind 10 assists from
Chandler Gibb and seven kills from
Jonathan Predney. The second and third sets were won by McKendree, as they put up a hitting percentage of .492 for the two sets combined.
Concordia came back to win the fourth set 25-22, which set up a winner take all set number five.
Late in the fifth
Cristian Rodriguez put down a kill to put the Eagles up 11-9, but it wouldn't be enough, as McKendree took six of the last eight points, winning the set 15-13.
Three Eagles were in double digits in the kills category.
Jonathan Predney led with 21 kills and was followed by
Joseph Pillon at 15 and
Hunter Howell with 11.
Chandler Gibb led the Eagles again in assists with 32 and
Cristian Rodriguez came off the bench to contribute 18 assists of his own.
The second match for the Eagles wasn't as closely contested, with BYU getting the sweep 3-0.
CUI struggled on offense, hitting only .145 with just 25 kills. The trio of Predney, Pillon, and Howell combined for 21 of the Eagles 25 kills.
The Eagles did have a good night at the net, posting a total of 12 block assists and five solo blocks to hold the Cougars to a hitting percentage of .239.
CUI returns home on Jan. 19th to host Suny New Paltz University at 7:00 PM. The match will be the first of a seven-game homestand for the Eagles. Live coverage will be available at cuieagles.com
