Box Score In the first few minutes of the PacWest face off between Concordia and the Cal Baptist Lancers, it appeared as if another closely fought conference battle would ensue.
The Lancers struck first, but Tad Dufelmeier quickly came back for the Eagles with two of his own to tie it up. After the Lancers went up 4-2, senior Justin Davis delivered a jumper. But with the game set at an 8-6 Lancer lead, the game slowly slipped away from the Eagles.
Cal Baptist went on a 13 point run until Dufelmeier's layup cut the deficit to 8-21 with 9:25 to play. Although the Eagles attempted to chip away at the lead, the Lancer shooters were hot in the first half, shooting 52.9 percent from the field and making six of 12 three-point shots to enter the break ahead by a score of 45-22.
Case Bruton broke out of the gates into the second half for the Eagles, making a layup twenty seconds in. Cameron English followed up with two free throws.
Concordia fought to hold Cal Baptist at a 19 point lead, but the Lancer offense did not let up. They improved on their first half shooting, making 57.1 percent of their shots from the three-point range and 45.5 percent from the field. The Eagles shot 40.7 percent from the field, but went 0-5 from behind the arch. Concordia fell to the Lancers 89-55.
Dufelmeier led the Eagles with 12 points, four rebounds and one assist. Davis had 10 points and English scored eight.
The Eagles, now 9-7 on the year and 5-3 in conference, compete with Dixie State next. The Trailblazers dropped their second conference game Saturday night to Point Loma, making them an 8-2 PacWest. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 16 in Irvine, Calif.
