Concordia Makes Quick Work of the Hawks

Box Score Irvine, Calif. - After getting five days of rest, the Concordia Men's Volleyball team came out ready to play on Thursday night, as they swept the Suny New Paltz Hawks by a score of 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-17). The win boosted the Eagles record to 6-5 on the season and dropped the Hawks to 1-2.
The Eagles offense looked sharp in the first, behind four kills from
Jonathan Predney and three each from
Andrew Hammer,
Hunter Howell and
Ryan Anselmo The set was dominated by the Eagles, as they also held Suny New Paltz to a low hitting percentage of .038, taking the set 25-14.
Suny New Paltz looked to bounce back in the second and took an early 10-7 lead after a kill from Anthony Bonilla. The Eagles stayed the course, working their way back into the game to tie the score at 18 apiece. After going back and forth for a couple of points,
Jonathan Predney put down back to back kills to put CUI up 22-20. The Eagles never looked back and won the set 25-21.
The resilient Hawks team jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the third set, forcing the Eagles to play at a high level for the whole match. CUI answered with a seven to one run, earning an 8-6 lead after a Predney ace. The momentum stayed in Concordia's favor and they went on to take the set 25-17, and sweep the Hawks 3-0.
Jonathan Predney led Concordia in kills with 12 and added two aces. He was followed by
Andrew Hammer with eight kills and three block assists. The defense was anchored by middle blocker
Andrew Hammer and
Jacob Weiser. Hammer was a presence at the net, logging five block assists and Weiser picked up a match-high 10 digs.
