Big Third Quarter Propels Eagles Past Silverswords

The Concordia Women's Basketball Team opened up its Hawaiian road trip with a win over Chaminade on Tuesday, beating the Silverswords 93-77.

The Eagles trailed by four at the conclusion of the first quarter and the Silverswords looked to stretch their lead in the second quarter, up by nine midway through.  A jumper by Ashley Earles at 3:51 sparked the Concordia offense as the Eagles went on a 15-point run to end the first half with a 43-42 lead.

Offense continued to dominate for the Eagles as they put up 31 points in the third, finishing the quarter with a 74-63 lead.  Concordia scored 15 points on turnovers in the quarter, and 17 came off of the bench.  Sopavy Seng put up eight, Alyssa Braun scored five and Annie Studdert, Gabby Johnson and Portia Neale all contributed four each.

Seng led the Eagles with 18 total points, making four from behind the three-point line.  Studdert totaled 17 points and Braun contributed 12.  Judith Espinoza tallied eight assists and four steals.  Concordia shot 52.2 percent from the field and went 14-for-25 from the free throw line.

The Eagles continue their road trip at BYU-Hawaii in Laie, Hawaii on Thursday at 5 p.m.
