Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Emily Duran

Eagles keep rolling with sixth-straight win

Just under two weeks since their last meeting, Concordia Women's Volleyball and Point Loma competed in a four-set battle Wednesday evening. After defeating the Sea Lions on the road, the Eagles returned to their home turf in CU Arena and defeated Point Loma for their sixth straight win.

The Sea Lions set the tone early with a 3-0 run to kick start the game. Reigning PacWest Defender of the Week, Cindy Tran, gave the Eagles the first point of the match on a kill from Jessica Diederich. After working their way to a 15-11 lead, Concordia forced Point Loma into its first timeout, and quickly into their second at 19-16. Following the second intermission, the Sea Lions slowly cut down at the Eagles' lead. Behind 21-23, Point Loma pushed four consecutive to take game one 25-21.

Concordia shook things up in set two and improved its team .081 hitting percentage to .355. In addition, they contained the Sea Lions to -.024 with 10 errors. Marcela Frazzoni provided steady defensive play throughout the set, anchoring Concordia's defense with accurate digs from the middle back position. Concordia controlled the game early with a 16-11 lead. But, the Sea Lions remained resilient and forged a 6-2 run to reduce the Eagles to a one-point lead. Concordia buckled down and claimed the final eight points, highlighted by kills from Riley Gill to even the match at one game apiece.

Two kills from Rachel Flynn and one from Tran set the tempo for game three and gave Concordia an 8-2 advantage they never handed over the remainder of the game. The 15 combined kills helped secure a 25-21 set three Eagle victory.

The Eagles delivered their best offensive performance of the night in game four. With 14 kills and only one error, Concordia combined for a .542 attack percentage. With a 22-17 lead, Kyra Auten buried two Logan Grove sets to put the Eagles at match point. A Sea Lion service error sealed the match off with a score of 25-21.

Rachel Flynn posted 13 kills with 14 digs and Tran was close behind with 11 and two blocks. Amber Rose held down the net defensively for the Eagles with eight blocks, four of which were solo. Auten hit .692 with nine kills and zero errors to go along with three blocks. Diederich posted 24 assists and Grove had 21.

Saturday, the Eagles take on the Azusa Pacific Cougars at 5 p.m. in CU Arena.
