SEATTLE, WASH. — The Concordia Men's Basketball team (3-2) kicked off the Sodexo Tip Off Classic on Friday night against the tournament host, Seattle Pacific University (2-1). The Eagles fell to the Falcons 79-56. Tad Dufelmeier led Concordia with 16 total points while JT Roach had 12. Michael Vos-Otin grabbed five total rebounds, two offensive and three defensive.
The SPU Falcons started the season 1-1 with a win against Cal State East Bay and a loss against Sonoma State. Seattle Pacific Men's Basketball was picked to finish fifth of 11 teams in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) preseason poll.
Only 20 seconds into the game, Brian Chambers dunked the ball and gave the Eagles a strong start.
Concordia fell behind by one point early in the period but continued to closely trail the Falcons until halftime.
A layup by Chambers and jumper by Dufelmeier kept the offensive momentum for CUI.
Dufelmeier hit a three pointer followed by a layup by Cameron English bringing the score tighter at 16-13.
Mike Mellinger drained a three pointer in the last second of the half. The first half ended with Concordia trailing, 35-26.
The Eagles got on the board first in the second half courtesy of a jumper by Geoff Gerlach.
Denzel Holt then scored his first jumper of the game with 15 minutes left.
A couple three pointers by Dufelmeier brought the score to 40-54, SPU continued to lead.
Roach scored a jump shot followed by a three pointer with 5 minutes left in the game. At 3:37, Roach sunk another three pointer and gave the Eagles some offensive strength.
In the last minute of the game, Holt rounded out the scoring for Concordia as the defensive game ended in a 79-56 Eagles loss.
