Concordia concludes conference play with win, Rose breaks blocking record

In their final match of 2017's regular season, Concordia Women's Volleyball capped off the year with a three-set sweep and a spot at the top of the record book for senior middle blocker Amber Rose.

Rose set the career all-time block assists record with her first block of the match with Cindy Tran at her side. The duo went on to tally seven more together on the night while causing offensive chaos for the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds.

The Eagles held FPU to a .043 attack percentage while forcing 24 errors. In addition to shutting down the Sunbirds with 18 blocks, the Eagles boasted a .363 hitting percentage with 36 kills and seven aces.

Senior Rachel Flynn rounded out her career with 11 kills, five digs and an ace. Libero Madeline Deters added six digs and four assists to her career numbers. Kyra Auten hit .400 to go along with two blocks and Jessica Diederich had 18 assists and four digs.

Concordia's offense picked up early with a seven-point run fueled by three aces from freshman Riley Gill. The Eagles extended their lead to nine on a few Sunbird errors and kills from Tran and Flynn. Fresno Pacific generated kills mid-game, but the Eagles utilized their lead and won the game 25-12.

In game two, the Sunbirds went up 11-7 to force and Eagle timeout. Concordia capitalized with three straight points, but following a Deters ace, Fresno grabbed two more points. The teams tossed the lead back and forth until, tied at 21, Rose started a three-point run with a kill to get game point. Fresno Pacific came within one, but Jaclyn Brown finished set two on the set from Diederich.

Rose continued to roll and started out set three with two kills. Up 8-5, the Eagles' 15-3 scoring run highlighted by Julia DenBoer's tough serving put them in a comfortable position. The Sunbirds scored three consecutive, but the Eagles ended the night with kills from Flynn and Kylie Breitenwischer.

The Eagles finished the 2017 regular season with an 18-9 and 14-6 PacWest record. In the final night of conference play, the Eagles are in fourth place.
