Eagles drop close contest to Cal Baptist

Concordia Men's Water Polo matched up with Cal Baptist for the second time in the 2017 season Thursday, and despite the closely fought overtime battle, the Lancers defeated the Eagles 12-11.

The Lancers went up 2-0 in the first period and held the Eagles scoreless until Cristiano Tomassetti struck with a goal in the second. CBU extended the lead to two but the Eagles responded with a goal from Jacob Saduddin.  After one more Lancer goal, Saduddin tallied one more to finish the period down 4-3.

Concordia tied the score 5-5 with goals from Spencer Hosch and Angel Rojas. The Lancers' offense continued to roll, but the Eagles stayed within one with a goal from Patrick Zsiros. The Eagles kept battling. Rojas buried his second goal of the matchup to tie things at seven and Hosch gave the Eagles their first lead of the game.

To start the fourth, CBU scored two consecutive goals to take a 10-8 advantage. Zsiros evened the game up again with two more Eagle goals.

In overtime, Jonny Lotero put the Lancers up early but Hosch responded to tie the game at 11.  With 1:41 on the clock, CBU's Tanner Shore secured the 12-11 win for the Lancers with an overtime golden goal.

The Eagles, now 9-10, return to action on the road Saturday against LMU at 12 p.m.
