Concordia Thanksgiving Classic Recap: Eagles collect second win against UAV

6916IRVINE, CALIF. – The Concordia Men's Basketball team (6-2) grabbed its second win of the Concordia Thanksgiving Classic in a matchup against the University of Antelope Valley Pioneers (3-3) on Saturday evening. The Eagles took the victory 92-68 against the NAIA foe.

Tad Dufelmeier led the Eagles with 17 total points, three steals, and two assists. Brian Chambers was not far behind with 15 total points, two assists and two steals. Geoff Gerlach grabbed nine total rebounds, two offensive and seven defensive.

The Eagles offense began the game with low intensity in the first half scoring just 36 points before the halftime buzzer. The Pioneers had the lead for the first eight minutes of the half, until a layup in the paint by Dufelmeier put the Eagles on top.

Concordia then extended their lead to 10 points with a last minute three pointer by Tyler Lacour. The Pioneers added two points before heading into halftime with a 36-28 Eagles lead.

The halftime break seemed to light a fire under the Eagles offense. The team scored 56 points in the second period starting with a trio of three pointers by JT Roach, Dufelmeier, and Chambers.

After seven minutes, Chambers drained another three pointer and increased the Eagles lead to 54-32.

The Eagles took their largest lead of the game (+39) with 10 minutes left after a layup by Gerlach, assisted by Roach.

Concordia rounded out its scoring with a dunk by Adam Turner in the final minute, securing the final score of 92-68.

"We didn't have the defensive focus and attention to detail that we wanted in the first half. But I thought we challenged them at halftime and came out and had a really good second half," said Head Coach Ken Ammann.

"We feel good going into conference play. We are a little disappointed that we didn't create the momentum that we wanted going into this tough road trip but we just have to go out there and compete at a high level," said Coach Ammann.
