ORANGE COUNTY, CALIF. — The Concordia Men's Basketball team (1-1) played in its second game of the season in the Disney Tip-Off Classic tournament on Sunday night. The Eagles competed against Saint Leo University (1-2) of the Sunshine State Conference.The Sea Lions were picked to tie for 10th place in the Sunshine State Conference Preseason Poll.
Wearing the familiar colors of green and gold, Saint Leo picked up their first win of the season on Saturday of the Disney Tip-Off Classic. The win came by one point against Humboldt State University, 66-65.
In tonights game, the Eagles got on the board early with a jump shot by Geoff Gerlach and two layups by Tad Dufelmeier. Concordia scored six points before Saint Leo posted any points.
With nine minutes left in the first half, JT Roach hit a three pointer to increase the gap for the Eagles 21-16. Roach buried another three point shot with five minutes remaining in the first period.
Cameron English dunked on a pass by Dufelmeier to put the Eagles up 36-25 with two minutes left in the first half. English closed out the scoring with a layup before the end of the first period ended with a 40-35 score, in Concordia's favor.
In the second period, Roach hit back to back three pointers within 24 seconds of each other. Both shots were assisted by Dufelmeier.
Tyler Lacour scored a layup with 13 minutes remaining, his first points of the game.
With 8:54 left, Brian Chambers hit a three pointer assisted by Dufelmeier making it 62-57.
Denzel Holt rounded out the scoring for the Eagles with two free throws and a final score of 83-69.
"We had a great overall team effort tonight against a team that was really tough to beat. All of our post players played big minutes on both ends of the floor", Head Coach Ken Ammann said. "We played with much more confidence tonight and took great shots on offense".
Roach led Concordia with 23 total points. The redshirt senior also posted two assists and one steal making four of his six three point attempts.
Dufelmeier carried the Eagles in assists with nine and total points with 18.
Following suit, English recorded 15 points and one block.

The Concordia Men's Basketball team returns to the court on November 10th at the CCAA/PacWest Challenge in San Marcos, Calif. Tip off is scheduled for 5pm.
