Despite a closely fought overtime loss to Cal Baptist earlier in the week, the Eagles didn't let it phase them. Instead, they bounced back to take down Loyola Marymount 12-11 in their final WWPA regular season match of the year. Concordia is now 10-10 and 4-4 in conference.
Angel Rojas gave the Eagles the first lead of the game with his goal on the assist from
Joshua Mundell. With under a minute in the first period, LMU struck back and tied the match 1-1.
The Lions opened up the second with two more goals before Rojas slowed their roll with his second of the game. Down 4-2,
Patrick Zsiros scored his first of five goals of the day from a penalty shot to keep the Lions within one.
At the start of the third,
Spencer Hosch scored two goals to match the Lions 5-5. With 1:22 remaining the game, the Lions pulled ahead 9-8. After a foul on LMU, Hosch capitalized on a penalty shot to tie the game with 25 seconds to play. Zsiros put away two more in the first overtime to keep a slight advantage, 11-10, over the Lions. LMU tied the game to send it into an extra period. Hosch struck again to finish the game out on the pass from
Nick Walker.
Concordia will play in the WWPA conference tournament November 17-19 in La Jolla, Calif.
