Eagles drop close PacWest contest to UHH

HILO, HAWAI'I — On Monday night, the Concordia Men's Basketball team (8-3, 2-1 PWC) wrapped up its Hawaiian road trip with a close fought loss against the University of Hawai'i at Hilo Vulcans (3-4, 2-0 PWC).  The Vulcans were picked to finish tenth in the PacWest preseason poll.

JT Roach led the Eagles in total points with 20, four rebounds, and three assists. Brian Chambers posted four rebounds, two assists, and 16 points. Tad Dufelmeier passed eight assists, had three rebounds and seven points. The Eagles forced 20 turnovers and only gave away the ball 12 times. 

Roach started the Eagles off with a three pointer in the first minute, assisted by Chambers. Layups by Chambers and Geoff Gerlach evened the score at 7-7. 

Concordia fell behind three minutes into the game but regained the lead two minutes later after with another three pointer by Roach. Back to back three pointers by Chambers and Michael Vos-Otin strengthened the lead for the Eagles. 

After a six minute gap in Concordia scoring, Tyler Lacour broke through the pause with a three pointer in the fourteenth minute. 

Roach added two more three pointers while Cameron English scored a layup and a jumper before the end of the first half. The Vulcans hit a last minute three pointer before heading to half-time with the 41-39 lead. 

At the start of the second half, Mike Mellinger scored a jumper to bring the Eagles back within two points of the Vulcans. 

Three minutes into the half Roach grabbed a defensive rebound and hit another three pointer.  One minute later, Lacour scored a jumper than evened the score 50-50. 

With 13 minutes remaining, an offensive rebound by Chambers led to a dunk by English that gave the Eagles the lead once again. Unfortunately, the lead was lost soon after. 

Four three pointers by Roach (2) ,Chambers and Dufelmeier added to the Eagles total scoring. Concordia's offensive attempts fell just short in the second half. The contest concluded in favor of the Vulcans, 90-84. 

UP NEXT

The Eagles return to CU Arena for a PacWest conference home game against Biola. The matchup is scheduled for December 9th at 7:30pm.
