Eagles open up Dixie State Softball Easton Classic 1-1

Box Score 2 Although Concordia Softball didn't win both games on opening day of the Dixie State Softball Easton Classic, the team proved they will not go down without a fight.
In the first game of the day, Concordia took on Metro State Denver. Although the Eagles scored first, they found themselves trailing 2-1 in the fifth.
The Eagles staged a comeback in the bottom the seventh to send the game into extra innings.
Amanda Gjertsen started the rally off with a single down the left field line. Sarah Kretschmar followed up with a walk. McKinsey Thorpe stepped up to the plate next, and moved the two runners over and reached first safely on an error by the third baseman. Ryann Ferguson's sacrifice fly to left field evened the score at two.
In the first extra inning, both teams went scoreless. In the top of the ninth, the Roadrunners posted two runs. The Eagles went down in order in the bottom of the ninth to leave the Metro State with the 4-2 win.
Hours later, the Eagles returned to the field against St. Edward's University. Their offense came alive to earn them an 8-1 win.
Down 1-0, Amanda Gjertsen tied things up in the top of the second with a solo homerun. Michelle Lieng kept the inning rolling with a single to right center. Mackenzie Graham singled next and moved Lieng to third. Ferguson loaded the bases with a walk and Thorpe brought in the final run of the inning on a fielding error.
In the third, the Eagles posted four more runs on four hits to go ahead 6-1. The added one more in the sixth and seventh to seal the 8-1 win.
Ferguson finished the game 2-4 with two RBI and one walk. Thorpe, Palazzolo and Lieng each had two hits. Gjertsen was 3-3 with two runs and two RBI. The team totaled 14 hits. BethAnn McCann recorded her second win. She threw five innings and only allowed four hits.Â
