Concordia Takes the Battle of the Eagles

LA MIRADA, Calif. – The battle of the Eagles was won by Concordia, as both its Men's and Women's Tennis teams came away with victories over Biola University. The women won in convincing fashion, sweeping Biola 9-0. The men followed suit and edged out their opponent by a score of 5-4.
The Women
Concordia's women improved their record to 3-1 on the season after an impressive performance on Tuesday afternoon.
Anastasiia Kuprina and
Luma Schwab got things rolling in singles as both took their matches 2-0. The winning became contagious as four more Concordia Eagles came up with wins in singles.
Johanna Keeline and Samantha
Schuster both recorded 2-0 (6-0,6-1) wins and then Katherine Jensen and
Hailey Diefenbach wraps things up with wins of their own.
In doubles, the CUI women teamed up to go 3-0 on the day. Kuprina and Schwab were first up and put away their opponents 8-5. Next up was Keeline and Schuster, who took an 8-3 win and the last Concordia win went to the team of Diefenbach and
Ashley Glick by a score of 3-2.
The Men
The Concordia men found themselves in another battle but managed to pull out the 5-4 win. The win propels them to 2-1 on the season and it marks the second game they have won by one point.
Till Guttenberger,
Man Hon Ko and
Thijs Hagen were the three Concordia Eagles that earned wins in singles. Guttenberger went 2-0 (6-3, 6-0) to take his win, while
Man Hon Ko recorded a 2-0 (6-0, 6-1) victory. Hagen finished off singles with a 2-1 (6-2, 5-7, 7-5) win.
CUI went 2-1 in doubles with the wins coming from the team of Guttenberger and
Daniel Reddmann, and another composed of
Sten Boersma and
Erik Witzlinger.
The two Concordia Tennis teams will travel to the University of Redlands for their matchups against the Bulldogs starting at 3:00 PM.
