Anudokem's Double-Double Not Enough in Overtime Thriller

The Concordia Women's Basketball Team forced the Dominican Penguins into overtime on Thursday night in San Rafael.  Though they battled until the end, they came up just short, dropping the PacWest matchup 93-88.

Zoe Scott-Goss got things started for the Eagles with a layup, putting the first points on the board in the game.  Dominican answered back with a layup of their own.  The first quarter would continue in this back and forth fashion and the Eagles and Penguins battled to maintain the lead.  At the end of the first quarter, Dominican held a slim lead of 20-18.

They held this lead throughout the second quarter, stretching the lead to nine points with 1:23 left in the half.

A layup from Ugochi Anudokem turned things around for Concordia in the third quarter, putting the Eagles back in front 38-37.  The lead continued to trade hands as a jumper from Alyssa Braun at 4:54 gave the Eagles a momentary lead.  Scott-Goss would send the Eagles into the fourth quarter with a 59-57 lead after a layup with just six seconds left. 

Haley Brown gave Concordia a six-point lead, followed by a layup from Gabby Johnson that put the Eagles up 67-59.  A three-pointer from Portia Neale put Concordia up by 11 with 5:53 to play.  The Penguins battled back, regaining the lead and with 26 seconds left they lead 81-78.  Annie Studdert continued to be a major part of the Eagle offense, sinking a three-pointer to tie the game up with 13 seconds left, forcing the two teams into overtime.

Dominican dominated the overtime period, taking the lead at 4:45 and holding it until the end.

Anudokem had 20 points and 11 rebounds, giving her her second career double-double.Neale contributed 17 points in the game, as well as five rebounds and four assists.  Scott-Goss tallied 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists.  Montana Walters helped out with 12 points, seven assists, five rebounds, and two steals.  Studdert added 10 points and grabbed four boards.

The Eagles continue their road trip in Oakland on Saturday as they take on Holy Names at 5 p.m.
