Concordia Splits With Sea Lions

Costa Mesa, Calif. – On Wednesday afternoon the Concordia Men's and Women's Tennis teams matched up with Point Loma Nazarene University at the Costa Mesa Tennis Courts.
 The Eagle men took the win to improve to 3-2 on the season, but the women dropped their match to put themselves at a record of 4-2 overall.

The Women
In singles, the Eagles went toe to toe with the Sealions, coming away with three out of six wins. Anastasiia Kuprina started the Eagles off in the win column with a 2-0 (6-2, 6-2) win in the number one slot. After the Sealions countered by taking wins in the second and third matches, Samantha Schuster and Ghada Al-ajeely came back with a couple of wins of their own.

Schuster battled it out and won by a score of 2-1 (6-2, 6-7, 7-6) and Al-ajeely impressed with a 2-0 (6-0, 6-1) win in her match. 

Doubles told different story, as the Concordia Women were unable to come away with any wins. The team of Ashley Glick and Al-ajeely came the closest in their 8-6 loss.

The Men
The Eagle men came to play in their competition and took four out of six in singles and two of three in doubles.

Till Guttenberger shined with a 2-0 (6-2, 6-0) win against Point Loma's one spot. Erik Witzlinger and Daniel Reddmann earned two more wins for the Eagles in the third and fourth slot. Witzlinger topped his opponent 2-0 (6-2, 6-2) and Reddmann dominated 2-0 (6-1, 6-1). Thijs Hagen capped things off with his 2-0 (6-1, 6-4) win.

Guttenberger and Reddmann teamed up to pull out an 8-3 win in in the first doubles match.   The second Eagle win in doubles came from the team of Witzlinger and Man Ho Ko. The two combined to knock off their opponents by a score of 8-4.

The Concordia Men's Tennis team will continue their season at the Costa Mesa Tennis Courts on Friday, Feb. 24th against Sonoma State University. They will then join the women and host Holy Names University on Saturday, Feb. 25th.
