Eagles Outlast Tritons 11-7
Staff
The UCSD Tritons gave the Eagles all they could handle for the first 38 minutes of the game, before Concordia pulled away in the second half. After the score was knotted at 6-6, the Eagles defense held the Tritons scoreless for 22 minutes, while going on a 5 goal run to put the game out of reach.
The Eagles struck first in the contest as Celine Rios finished the first of her three goals on the day. The Tritons fired right back though on their next possession, winning the draw and golfing in a loose ball on the crease. The Eagles seemed to take control of the contest, deliberately putting in the next three scores courtesy of Alexandra Kyte (3g,3a), Stevie Siluano (3g)– twice. Despite the early advantage, sloppy play led to multiple Triton possessions and they eventually broke through, scoring the last three goals of the half.
With the score knotted at 4-4, the Eagles needed a big half and got it from their offensive and defensive leaders. Emily Cabuling (10gb), Sabrina Manriquez (5gb) and the Eagle defense turned back UCSD, holding the Tritons silent for the final 22:09 in the game. During that time, the Eagles mounted their attack with goals from Victoria Peleras (3g), Kyte, Celine Rios (3g,1a) and Siluano. The Tritons ended their scoring drought as time expired, but it was too late and the Eagles were victorious 11-7.
"Good teams find a way to win even when they don't have their best that day," said Coach Brent, "It says a lot about our team culture that we were able to brush off a rough first half, come together, and finish a quality opponent like UCSD."
Alexandra Kyte was awarded player of the game honors for her 3 goal, 3 assist performance.
