Eagles down 49ers in Season Opener

Last year's 6-5 record looks like a distant memory for the 2017 Eagles. The Eagles started last season 0-4 with lopsided affairs in each contest.  The 2017 Eagles flipped the script in their season opener, creating separation early from Cal State Long Beach and striding to a 17-6 finish.

This was the first contest for many of the new look Eagles, including Stevie Siluano, who won the opening draw and pushed it down field for the games first score.  Alexandra Kyte followed up the scoring with one of her team high 7 goals on the day.  Despite the big numbers from Kyte, the Eagles shared the ball extremely well, tallying 5 assists and having 6 Eagles with at least one point.

"It was exciting to see this team gel quickly and really trust one another today," said Head Coach Ryan Brent. "We executed many of the things we've been working on and had an awesome performance in goal."

The Goalkeeper that Coach Brent spoke about is newcomer Grace Tom. The New York native made her first career start in goal for the Eagles and performed extremely well: posting 7 saves to only 6 goals against. The defensive front of Grace was anchored down by a trio of seniors in Emily Cabuling (4gb, 3 CTO), Sabrina Manriquez (3gb, 1 CTO) and Emily Sanchez

It was an impressive debut for the Eagles, but they must turn the page quickly as they take on Cal State Fullerton at home next weekend.
