Eagles Continue Streak with Two Wins on the Day

Box Score 2 IRVINE, Calif. - The streak continued for the Concordia Men's Volleyball team, as they picked up a couple more wins on Friday at CU Arena.
The Eagles rolled over UC Santa Cruz in their first match of the day, sweeping the Banana Slugs 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-21).
Seniors
Ryan Anselmo and
Joseph Pillon saw a lot of action in this one, racking up a combined 29 kills on 65 attempts. Anselmo led the way with 15 kills at a clip of .414, while also adding two service aces and four digs. Pillon wasn't far behind as he put down 14 kills with three block assists and three digs.
Setter
Chandler Gibb had another big game with 43 assists and a team-high nine digs.
As a team, the Eagles hit .343 in the match with 48 kills on 105 attempts. Concordia's offense proved to be too good as the Banana Slugs couldn't quite keep up.
Concordia improved to 14-7 after the win, while UC Santa Cruz dropped to 10-4.
The intensity was ratcheted up for the second match of the day, as Clake University came out energy and a big kill from Isaiah Acfalle for the first point of the match.
After getting the first match of the day off, outside hitter
Jonathan Predney answered back with a kill of his own to put the Eagles on the board.
These two plays set the tone for the match, as the two teams battled it out for the rest of night.
In the end, the Eagles found their groove and offensively played at an elite level to put the Crusaders away.
Anselmo and Pillon worked their way into the double digits in kills again, while also finding a way to improve their hitting percentage. Anselmo finished the match with 10 kills at a hitting percentage of .615 and Pillon recorded 11 kills at .500.
Predney had a team-high 14 kills with a percentage of .462.
With the win, Concordia extends its win streak to six and puts its record at 15-7 on the season. Clarke University falls to 16-5.
The Eagles offense seems to be firing on all cylinders, hitting an impressive .394 as a team in the second match. They have also seen good results on the defensive end, holding UCSC to a hitting percentage of .237 and Clarke University to .212.
CUI hopes to continue its streak and send off their seniors with a win against Cal Baptist on Saturday, March. 11th in the last home game of the season. The match is set to start at 7:00 PM and live coverage can be found here:
