The Eagles continued their road trip this week, beginning a four-game series with Dixie State on Friday. The young team put up a fight, but dropped game one by a score of 5-4.
Neil Lang got the start on the bump for Concordia, coming into the day with a record of 1-2.
The Eagles got on the board first in the top of the third as
Chris Martin walked with two outs and advanced on a wild pitch. Senior
Ryan Land sent a double into center field to drive Martin in and put the Eagles up 1-0.
Tony Garcia did his part from behind the plate, throwing out a runner attempting to steal in the bottom of the third and keeping him out of scoring position.
Three straight hits to start the bottom of the fifth tied the game up for Dixie State.
The bottom of the sixth began the same way and with three straight hits the Trailblazers took a 2-1 lead. Lang was relieved by
Cade Temple who came in with two outs. One more run would come in, closing the book on Lang.
Down 3-1, Concordia came back in the top of the seventh looking to regain the lead.
Dillon Millar walked to lead things off. A sacrifice bunt from Dane Vande Gutche moved him to second. Garcia came to the plate next and put the ball in play. A throwing error got him to second and allowed Millar to score. A single from Martin moved Garcia to third before a ground out from Land would bring him in and tie the score at three.
Haloa Dudoit sent a single into left to bring in Martin and give the Eagles a 4-3 lead.
Dixie's Tyler Mildenberg sent a two-run homerun over the fence and give the Trailblazers a 5-4 edge over Concordia in the bottom of the seventh.
Isaiah Bettencourt took over on the mound in the bottom of the eighth and gave up just one hit.
Temple takes the loss and now sits at a record of 1-2 on the season.
Land led the Eagles with two RBIs and Martin scored two runs. Dudoit and Millar each had a stolen base.
Concordia continues the series with Dixie State on Saturday with a double header beginning at 4 p.m.
