Coyotes Edge Eagles in Midweek Matchup

In a game that saw 14 pitchers total, six from Concordia and eight from San Bernardino, the Eagles would drop a close matchup between the Coyotes 6-4.

The top of the first started with a bang for Concordia.  Ryan Land and Haloa Dudoit led off with back-to-back singles before Bailey Collins stepped to the plate with one out.  Collins drove the first pitch he saw over the fence in right center to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead.

Morgan Brannock had the ball for the Eagles to begin the bottom of the first as CSUSB chipped away at the Eagle lead.  An error, walk and a base hit loaded the bases with two outs before Tyler Van Marter knocked in two with a single to bring the Coyotes within one.

San Bernardino would score again in the bottom of the second to tie the game up at three.

Land walked to lead off the top of the third inning and would take advantage of Coyote mistakes to go all the way around.  An error allowed him to take second, then two wild pitches brought him in to give the Eagles back the lead.

In the bottom of the fourth with Jason McLellan on the mound for Concordia, a three-run home run would give CSUSB a 6-4 lead.

Isaiah Bettencourt took over in the bottom of the fifth and faced the minimum through two innings of work before handing the ball over to Alex Zalasky.  Zalasky and Mike Killeen finished the game off with two consecutive scoreless innings, but the bats remained silent and the Coyotes would hang on to win 6-4.

With the loss, McLellan drops to 0-2 on the season as the Eagles fall to 6-13.

The Eagles return home for a four-game series with the Hawaii-Hilo Vulcans, beginning with a double header on Saturday.  Game one of the PacWest matchup is set to start at 12 p.m. at Eagles Field.
